So I tried out TypePad for two weeks as they offer a free trial. Sometimes, and I don’t know why, I think I should blow money on things that aren’t really worth it.

I thought I’d share one of the more amusing interactions I had with TypePad. I have a BlackBerry so I downloaded their BlogIt! BlackBerry application. It didn’t work for me. Ever. It kept telling me I had no internet connection. I put this information on Twitter and got a response from SixApart pretty quickly urging me to open a support ticket. So I did. After the introduction telling me about problems they have and blah blah blah they instruct me to download some kind of program onto my phone. The message continues:

“After downloading the debug file, you can get the log file
which will be located on your mobile device at
\SDCard\BlackBerry\pictures\logdir\TPErrorLog.txt. You can
use the BlackBerry desktop manager (or a card reader) to
retrieve the file.

Please note the log file will contain your password. While
we will not share your password, you can edit the log file
to remove the password before submitting it back to us.

The log file can be uploaded to your TypePad account at
Control Panel > Files. Include the filename in your ticket
reply.

Finally, could you answer some additional questions?

 What is the device model?
How was TypePad installed (directly to device from browser
or via the desktop)?
What does it say in the “Mobile Network” settings in the
Options area?
What does it say in the “TCP” settings in the Options >
Advanced Options area?
What does it say in thee “Service Status” view? (Run the
”Manage Connections” app from the main view. Choose the
”Service Status” option.)
Is your TypePad blog set to private &/or password
protected?”

Are you using your BlackBerry through an enterprise setup?
Did someone in your IT department setup the device or did
you just buy it through retail and it just worked
independent of their company? If you are using it through
your company’s service, do you know what type of service
their company is using (BIS, MDS, etc.)?

Thanks so much for helping us troubleshoot the problem.

Say what?! I just wanted the application to work not work for the application.
